Grid to Full Preview
Hover a product and the rest of the shop steps into the dark around it.
Grid to Full Preview keeps a classic product grid, then makes hovering feel like lighting one piece in a dark showroom. Rest on any item and it blooms into a full preview beside the grid, cycling through detail shots with its name and price, while the remaining products dim into the room. Leave, and the shop resets as if nothing happened.
How it works
The page holds two layers in the same grid geometry, the product tiles and a hidden preview surface. Hover promotes the chosen product into the preview layer with a masked reveal, stepping through its detail photographs, while a veil dims everything else. Because both layers share one grid, the transition never jumps, it feels like the same object growing.
When to use it
Styled here as a dark furniture house, it suits premium shops with few, expensive products: furniture, lighting, instruments, art. Each product needs a main photograph and two details shot in a consistent style, which is exactly the discipline a premium catalogue should have anyway.
Why it works
It compresses the product page into the grid. The shopper sees details, name and price without leaving the collection, which removes the most expensive click in e-commerce, the one back to the listing. The darkness does the salesmanship, dimming the room around a hovered piece is the oldest showroom trick there is, done in CSS.

Common questions
What is a grid to preview effect?
A product grid where hovering an item expands it into a full preview with details and alternate photographs, in place, without navigating to a product page.
Why does the dark theme matter here?
The effect is theatrical, one product lit while the room dims, and theatre wants darkness. On white the same mechanic reads as a popup, on near black it reads as a spotlight.
How many photos does each product need?
Three: one main shot for the grid and two details for the preview to cycle through. Consistent lighting across all three is what makes the transition feel like one continuous object.
